Canna Companion Review: 60-Second Summary
Canna Companion talks the talk and walk the walk. Formulated by licensed veterinarians – and subject to the scrutiny of their veterinary advisory board – Canna Companion’s full-spectrum comprehensive cannabinoid capsules were formulated as a complement to pet health and wellness regimens, and contain no soy, wheat, corn, sugar, or GMOs. Were there similar assurances that their products were also free of common hemp contaminants, we would feel much more confident recommending them.
Canna Companion Brand Review
Canna Companion is an outlier in the cannabinoids-for-pets world. Founded by three licensed veterinarians, and advised by a board of three additional veterinarians, Canna Companion is uniquely committed to providing safe, effective cannabinoid supplements for cats and dogs. (If their logo is to be taken at face value, they may eventually offer products for livestock.)
Canna Companion offers up lengthy discussions of the benefits of CBDs for animals, a thorough discussion of the how’s and why’s of hemp (as opposed to marijuana), and an incredibly detailed FAQ section that is almost like talking to your own veterinarian about CBD for your pet. They also give their assurance that their vegetarian capsule are free of GMOs, sugar, wheat, corn, and other fillers that are typical for lower-quality pet products – and we give them big ups for that. Given their solid foundations, we really want to recommend Canna Companion more highly, but there is one thing standing in our way:
While Canna Companion does offer certificates of analysis upon request of their customer service department, we could not award them the Safety badge without testing for solvents, pesticides, herbicides, heavy metals, and microbial/fungal contamination. They openly state that since all 50 states don't require it, they do not perform testing for heavy metals, residual solvents, pesticides/herbicides, etc. The claim made is that since their hemp is ‘from North America’ the risk of contamination from said toxins is unlikely. In our experience, this is not always the case. (A better assurance would be that the hemp used in their products is at least organically grown.) Given that contaminants all-too-common to hemp can be particularly dangerous to animals, we were a little surprised that a group of veterinarians felt comfortable retailing products without solid proof of the safety of the source material. That could mean they are confident in their growers, but we need concrete verification to award our Safety badge.
If one is still interested in purchasing after knowing these facts, products range in price from $35 to $80 at CannaCompanionUSA.com. As always, we encourage conscious consumerism – there are certainly several other safe, high quality CBD pet supplement options available.
